Adequacy of lactation: dysreflexia vs. maternal nutrition.

چکیده
INFORMATION (PRACTICAL "MANAGEMENT") Problems with assessing the effect of maternal nutrition and lactation performance are presented in relation to a conceptual mathematical ziggurat. Difficulties, variations and flows are to be found in stages of this sequence of "logic" [e.g., assessment of maternal nutrition, volume and composition of breast milk, nutritional satisfactions of the nursling). It is concluded that the various steps in this process of reasoning are subject to much more variation and adaptation than appreciated. Much so-called "faltering" in the second trimester is physiologically normal ("pseudo-faitering"). HEALTH

Calcium economy in human pregnancy and lactation.
Pregnancy and lactation are times of additional demand for Ca. Ca is transferred across the placenta for fetal skeletal mineralisation, and supplied to the mammary gland for secretion into breast milk. In theory, these additional maternal requirements could be met through mobilisation of Ca from the skeleton, increased intestinal Ca absorption efficiency, enhanced renal Ca retention or greater ...
متن کاملImpact of amino acid nutrition during lactation on body nutrient mobilization and milk nutrient output in primiparous sows.
The impact of amino acid nutrition during lactation on body nutrient mobilization and milk nutrient output in primiparous sows was evaluated. Thirty-six sows, nursing litters of 13 pigs, were allocated daily 6 kg of a fortified corn-soybean meal diet containing a high (HP, 1.20% lysine) or low (LP, .34% lysine) protein content during a 23-d lactation. Dietary lysine concentration was achieved b...
متن کاملMaternal DHA equilibrium during pregnancy and lactation is reached at an erythrocyte DHA content of 8 g/100 g fatty acids.
Low long-chain PUFA (LC-PUFA, or LCP) consumption relates to suboptimal neurodevelopment, coronary artery disease, and [postpartum (PP)] depression. Maternal-to-infant LCP transport during pregnancy and lactation is at the expense of maternal status, a process known as biomagnification. Despite biomagnification, maternal and infant LCP status generally declines during lactation. To assess the 1...
متن کاملStudy of Relationship between Hypernatremia in Neonates and Way of Maternal Breast Feeding
Introduction: The extreme reduction in breast milk intake during the first days of life leads to weight loss, kidney failure and hypernatremia. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between hypernatremia in neonates and way of maternal breastfeeding in hospitalized infants in Ghaem Hospital of Mashhad. Materials and Methods: After obtaining parental consent, 687 infants referr...
متن کاملAddressing barriers to maternal nutrition in low‐ and middle‐income countries: A review of the evidence and programme implications
Adequate maternal nutrition during the "first 1,000 days" window is critical from conception through the first 6 months of life to improve nutritional status and reduce the risk of poor birth outcomes, such as low birthweight and preterm birth. Unfortunately, many programmes have targeted implementation and monitoring of nutrition interventions to infants and young children, rather than to wome...
